What To Wear in Paris: 7 Fashionable Outfits
When I think of romance and whimsy, I think of Paris. This beautiful destination is magical for so many reasons. If I want to have the vacation of my dreams, Paris is at the top of the list. I can’t visit it enough!
Like all perfect vacations, the perfect outfits are a suitcase must-have. I like to plan out different outfits for various occasions, from wine tastings to touring the city. I’ve compiled a list of my top seven favorite ensembles for Paris based on the occasion.
Paris’ Rich History
The city of Paris has a lush and rich history. As the capital of France, it’s the biggest and most popular city in the country. It’s had a long history of ups and downs, seeing as it’s over 2,000 years old.
Why Visit Paris?
Paris has a fascinating history and a deep culture, so there are many reasons to visit Paris. From the beautiful views to the niche experiences, you’ll definitely want to do some research as you plan out your next visit.
Amazing Architecture
One of the most iconic features of Paris is its beautiful and historic architecture. When visiting Paris, you absolutely have to see the most popular architectural landmarks. While there are hundreds, you can look at the most popular (Eiffel Tower) or even search to find some niche landmarks (Arènes de Lutèce or the Jardins du Palais).
Delicious Cuisine
French cuisine is arguably one of the most popular cuisines worldwide. From classic dishes like coq au vin and the Croque Monsieur to more upscale palates like escargot, there’s something for everyone to enjoy when they visit.
My favorite activity involving cuisine is to get coffee and brunch at little hole-in-the-wall cafes every day I’m there, sipping a cup of coffee as I people-watch.
History Come to Life
Because of Paris’ rich history, there are museums abounding throughout the city. If you’re a history buff, you’ll find no limit in interest between the different museums, monuments, and memorials throughout the city.
7 Outfit Ideas for Paris
Now onto the planning: When you’re planning a trip to Paris, you want a versatile wardrobe, depending on the event. I’ve put together my favorite outfits to wear throughout the city. I hope you like them as much as I do!
Brunch Outfit Ideas for Paris
As I mentioned earlier, brunch is one of my favorite activities in Paris (or really anywhere!). So for that reason, I always want to wear the perfect outfits for the occasion.
My go-to is a light cream sweater, perhaps made of cashmere, with some khaki trousers that taper. I like to wear a leather belt and some oxfords. If I’m feeling funky, I’ll add a French beret because, when in Paris, right?
A Night Out in Paris
The outfit opportunities for a night out in Paris are pretty endless, but I’ll reel myself in and try to narrow it down to my favorites.
If I’m headed out to the bars with friends, I like to go for a more casual and 90s look. I’ll pair a white baby tee underneath a black silk camisole mini dress. I usually like to add some tights and some platform oxford, perhaps with white socks to mimic my top.
If I’m going out for a more elegant or refined event, like dinner at a Michelin-star restaurant, I dress the look up. This is when I tend to opt for a midi dress paired with some contrasting wrap sandals. I accessorize down to the nines and bring a shawl or jacket in case of a chill.
Visiting the Louvre
When I visit the Louvre, I have to have the right attire for the occasion. After all, the art has earned that much, I’d say.
I like to go for a more academic look, with trousers and a light blouse. I accessorize on top of that with a cardigan wrapped around my neck when I’m not wearing it. Finally, I add a camel-colored hat. To finish off the look, I slip on some mules — the Louvre is over 652,000 square feet, so comfort is key here.
Versailles Outfit Ideas
If you visit Paris, you have to tour the Palace of Versailles. It’s an amazing feature of architecture that is worth the trip. When I visit Versailles, I like to dress a bit upscale but without too much fanfare.
My go-to is a colorful midi dress with blocky pumps. This gives me the elegance of a heel without being too uncomfortable for continued walking. Then I like to layer up with accessories. I find that three to four thin, minimalist necklaces are the perfect addition to my look, along with some matching rings and an iconic bracelet as a compliment.
What To Wear to the Eiffel Tower
My perfect outfit for visiting the Eiffel Tower or taking pictures in front of the iconic symbol of Paris, of course, involves a dress.
I like to keep the look black and white chic. My favorite look would be either a dress that is color blocked in black and white or one that has a black-and-white pattern, such as stripes or polka dots.
I like to add that vibrant pop of color with a burgundy accent. Whether it’s a bright burgundy heel or a burgundy bag, you can add that classic pop of color with the black and white backdrop that is your dress.
Date Night in Paris
It’s no secret I’m a fan of silk, and this definitely is the case when it comes to a date night in Paris. If I’m going out for dinner, I want to be dressed to the nines on date night because you best believe I’m going to a delicious 5-star restaurant.
I love a long silk maxi dress with a slit up the side. It’s the perfect combination of the aesthetic of a mini dress and the elegance of a maxi. I like to pair this with some open-toed sandals, perhaps with the square-toed edges that come from 90s inspiration.
Exploring the Parisian Countryside
When I think of the Parisian countryside, I think of flowers, thatched roofs, and stone buildings. And while that’s not exactly Paris itself, it’s akin to the nearby rural countryside that is just a jump, hop, skip, and away from Paris. If you’re visiting Paris, I highly recommend visiting some wineries and more rural villages nearby.
When I visit the Parisian countryside, I like to wear light and summery springtime dresses. Floral patterns (on a jumpsuit or romper, weather depending) and leather sandals are a must-have. Paired with a sunhat and I’ve got an outfit that makes me feel as though I’d grown up in those rolling fields.
Paris Vacation of Your Dreams
Paris, often known as the City of Light or the City of Love, deserves those nicknames and more. This magical spot in France brings together culture, history, art, iconic cuisine, and more. While I imagine this city is on anyone’s destination list, it’s certainly on mine.
No matter where I visit, I always like to prepare the perfect outfits for any occasion. Paris, known for its fashion scene, is certainly not an exception. I like to plan out my looks based on the day's outings. With this guide on my favorite ensembles for the occasion, I hope you’re left feeling excited about your next trip to Paris.
